Sooo....I haven't posted in a while because I've been busy being ENGAGED!
I can't believe it, but it's true!
April 18, 2011 - My boss calls me on a Monday, she tells me about these two Broadway tickets she has for Tuesday evening but wouldn't be able to attend. She asked if I would like to have them, maybe take Shaun with me. Of course, I told her I would love to take them. I love Broadway shows and often check TDF.org for discount tickets. I was super excited, how often does your boss give you free tickets?!
So I called Shaun up to tell him about the tickets to see if he was busy that evening and he tells me that he has to check his schedule. I thought to myself...he can't be busy, he has the week off from work! Such a joker!
April 19, 2011 - We met up at 6:30pm on Tuesday evening by the Marquis Theatre to watch the musical Wonderland. While waiting for Shaun, I received a text from my sister saying she bought me a Groupon for Alta Restaurant. YAY, we love Alta, it's our favorite restaurant. It is also the place Shaun took me to dinner the night he asked me to be his girlfriend at a Broadway show on July 20, 2008.
During the intermission we discussed finding a place to eat after the show since both of us were getting a little hungry. I didn't find anything appetizing while browsing on the iPad, so we decided maybe we'll just go somewhere we know we like or find something in the area around Times Square.
The show was a great. It is Alice in Wonderland meets modern New York City girl and she finds herself in a strange place unlike the city with unusual characters. After the show, Shaun suggests Alta since he had heard about the Groupon that my sister purchased for me but I told him that you can't use the Groupon on the day you purchase it. Plus, we had already gone to Alta the week before with some friends, didn't he want to try something else? I think at this point he got a little frustrated with me and my reluctance to go to our favorite restaurant so he made an executive decision. He called Alta for reservations which were in 15 minutes. Can we make it to the restaurant in that short period of time?
Well, when we got to the restaurant they seated us at a four person table which I thought was a little odd, but Shaun didn't make a fuss over it or want to change to a smaller table so I didn't think anything more of it. We ordered some of our old favorites and a few of the new interesting items on the menu. As we are talking, the food starts to arrive at the table.
Little did I know, as I was busy eating and Shaun is busy talking, he had begun his speech...THE SPEECH! The speech that I have been waiting for, the one that I am supposed to be looking him lovingly in the eyes and listening with full attention. However, I was still feeding my face with the delicious food that Alta always serves. It wasn't until he reach inside his jacket and pulled out the little red box that I realized it was THE SPEECH! What?! Ahh! Wait! I wasn't ready, can we do a repeat?!
My heart was racing as my brain tried to replay everything that he had just said. How did I not realize this was happening? Sure, I knew that he was going to propose soon, but on a Tuesday. He totally had me fooled! As my brain was going into overdrive, I did manage to say "YES!" and give him a kiss.
A few minutes later, his sister (Sherine) and my sister (Chia Yi) arrived at Alta to exchange excited hugs. Sherine was actually at the Broadway show with us, but apparently I missed her because she had on such a great undercover disguise.
This was all part of Shaun's master plan which was such a well kept secret and so successfully executed that I didn't even realize it was happening until he took out the box. Doh! It was truly reminiscent of the day he asked me to be his girlfriend with a Broadway show and dinner at Alta. Everyone was in on it, even my boss! Needlesstosay I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with Shaun; he continues to surprise me every day. Let the planning begin...details to come!
